I Am Not a Morning Person

It’s Monday, and I’m mentally preparing myself for another week of waking up early. This will be my schedule for the foreseeable future (at least until the end of the year), so naturally, in order to embrace it, I need to write about it.

I wake up with the sun, and have a hard time staying awake during the day. I am not and have never been a morning person. Although this new schedule is not out of the ordinary  (my work schedule shifts based on client needs and location), it doesn't make it any easier.

Once I leave the warmth and comfort of my bed, I miraculously get myself into the shower. I'll either struggle to stay awake as warm water envelopes me or I shock my system awake with quick bursts of cold water. Sometimes, a little bit of both to keep my body guessing.

After I get ready and I am semi awake, I stumble down the stairs and make myself a cup of coffee. The caffeine rarely wakes me up anymore, but is needed to at least try to keep my migraines at bay. I go up the stairs to my home office and at this point, I'm typically a minute or 2 late to my management meeting that starts at 6:45am. As the lone west coast person, I am partially excused (but also, I'm never late to anything else). I turn on my camera, clear my voice of the I just woke up 45 minutes ago sound, and get my day started.

I repeat to myself: I can do this. And so can you.

Side Note(s):

  • This post is Day 13 of the WeblogPoMo2024 challenge.
  • One of the things that make my life easier, despite waking up earlier than I would like, is working from home full time. I plan on writing about that at some point this month.
